Designed by Peter Thomson, the 6,130m long, par 71 course on adjacent Dent Island features unparalleled views of the Whitsundays and the surrounding Great Barrier Reef.

18-hole, par 71 championship island golf course

Designed by champion golfer, Peter Thomson, the par 71 championship Hamilton Island Golf Club on neighbouring Dent Island measures 6,704 yards/6,130 metres. The only championship island golf course in Australia, the course has been designed to challenge all levels of golf enthusiasts, from resort guests to professional golfers.

Dent Island's natural and rugged beauty together with its mountainous terrain offered the designers a stunning canvas on which to design an extremely unique and breathtaking course. The design and construction has been carefully planned to ensure minimal disruption to the unique and sensitive environment, and with strict adherence to the guidelines set out by the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority and Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Water.

The golf course master plan has been developed by Thomson-Perrett. The principals of the firm are Peter Thomson AO CBE, former professional golfer and five-times British Open winner with more than 40 years experience in golf course design, and Ross Perrett, Planner, Architect, Landscape Architect and golf course designer with over 25 years experience. Thomson-Perrett has established a reputation for high quality resort and integrated residential and golf developments in many countries including China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, UK and Australia.

The clubhouse

The stunning Chris Beckingham-designed golf Clubhouse shows an environmentally sensitive structure that blends almost seamlessly with its surroundings, offering spectacular views to the southeast toward Pentecost Island and beyond.

Clubhouse designer Chris Beckingham is a renowned local architect known for his use of local materials that work within the natural environment to create a sense of balance and well being, with a particular Australian tropical edge. Chris also has a personal love for tropical New Guinean architecture; a passion he developed through years spent working in Papua New Guinea. Chris studied architecture in Denmark and was the principal architect for the luxury qualia resort on Hamilton Island.

The Clubhouse is open from 7am daily and features a restaurant, outdoor deck and bar as well as a golf pro shop.

Hamilton Island Golf Club services

To make your golf experience truly memorable our team of trained golf staff are at your service, including bookings, transfers, pro shop, driving range, lessons, golf carts and equipment rental . The Hamilton Island Golf Club offers comprehensive tuition and clinics to help you fine-tune your game.

The pro shop at the Hamilton Island Golf Club features a limited range of premium golf brand equipment and apparel available for purchase, as well as a full range of standard and deluxe hire equipment.

On-course refreshments: To keep you refreshed during your round our refreshment buggy provides golfers with a comprehensive selection of food and beverage items. It is also well stocked with golfing supplies should you need these during your round.

Driving range

The Hamilton Island Golf Club driving range will offer golf enthusiasts, as well as those wishing to learn or take up the sport, a premium area to practise their swing. Featuring an aquatic driving range and practice greens, the driving range offers breathtaking views over the Whitsunday Passage and back toward Hamilton Island.

Getting to Hamilton Island Golf Club

Your Hamilton Island golf experience commences as you step on board the purpose-built launch that transports you across the stunning blue waters of the Whitsundays. On the 15-minute journey you will have time to focus on your round and admire the rugged beauty of the golf course island terrain from afar.  Alternatively the Hamilton Island Golf Club can organise a private helicopter transfer to our helipad located next to the clubhouse. 

On arrival, golfers will be met by the golf course club staff and chauffeured to the Clubhouse and pro shop for player registration and course briefing.

Green fees and operating times

18-holes: $150* - includes return transfers from Hamilton Island and use of a two-seater electric golf buggy.
9-holes: $100* - includes return transfers from Hamilton Island and use of a two-seater electric golf buggy.
Golf Driving Range: $25 per 50 balls and $15 per 50 thereafter

Hire Equipment
Callaway: $40 per set 
Soft spike shoes: $15 per pair

Operating times: Play is available 7 days per week 7am - 4pm.
